Please reach b.e.a.m at maxine@beamtherapies.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Prior to your first appointment I will email you a consultation form and a disclaimer to complete and bring with you, this will save time on your first appointment. Once you've arrived we will go through your consultation form, talk through the reason for your visit and discuss any relevant information so we have a clear picture of the situation. From here I may get you to do some simple movements to assess restrictions and pain, I will generally make a note of how your feeling asking you to give me a number between 1 -10. 10 being the most pain you've been in to 1 being no pain at all. We will revisit these movements after the treatment, to see if the numbers have changed at all and to see how you feel. Once I've gathered all the information I need, I will give you the opportunity to get yourself undressed for the treatment, while I leave the room.
For 1 hour appointment you can expect 45-50mins of body work. During the treatment I will get you to lay either on your back, your stomach or your right or left side, please don't worry about the towels I will take care of those and just follow my directions of which side to move too. I have a number of pillows and blankets to make you as comfortable as possible. And YES my massage bed is heated! After the treatment, I will step out of the room to allow you to get ready. When I return we will go over the movements from the beginning of the appointment and see how you feel. I may also give you some exercises/stretches to do, I will generally demonstrate these and ask you to repeat the demonstration so I know that you will carry them out correctly. Then we will schedule in our next appointment. I will make a note of the information I have given you so we are able to discuss it at the next appointment.
Please do not come for your session if you are in the early and most contagious stage of an illness, typically durning the first 48-72 hours. Should you show signs of a temperature, flu or loss of smell or taste please call me to reschedule your appointment ASAP.
100% of the treatment cost is still payable if you cancel within 24 hours prior to your scheduled booking.
If you know your going to be late, please let me know ASAP. I usually allow 20min in between clients, this allows time to sterilise the room and replenish clean towels in preparation for the next appointment. I will do my best to provide you with the treatment you have scheduled, but cannot guarantee the full time if you're late arrival is over 20mins. Full payment for your scheduled treatment will be expected.
I will email you an invoice before or on the day of your treatment. Bank transfer details are listed on the invoice please make the payment at your earliest convenience. No one likes chasing payments. Cash is also acceptable.
Massage therapists are not allowed to diagnose. I maybe able to give you an idea as to what is going on from treating you and provide you with some options to alleviate pain and discomfort. I may also suggest/recommend other therapies or practitioners that may benefit you. However, your GP should always be a first port of call should you wish a formal diagnosis.
The end results of a massage can depend on the person and if applicable the type of injury, severity of pain and the type of treatment you receive. When you consider most people have been in pain, possibly for months before actually seeking help, one quick fix isn't going to see you pain free, the first treatment might elevate your severity of pain, but it will possibly take 1-4 sessions to get to the root of the problem. It is common to feel tender in an area that has been worked on during a treatment, however this should disappear after a couple of days. Always remember to drink more water after your treatment as this will help keeping you and your muscles hydrated.
MASSIVELY IMPORTANT! Honestly those that commit to the self care instructions I give, defiantly experience active results. Not only that, but there is only so much I can do, if you are committed to an improved function, better movement and a decrease in pain, then by carrying out your homework of self care you are enhancing what we've done in session 1 to continue to session 2. Rather than no implantation of self care after the first session, part of session 2 will be spent getting you from 1 to 2 again. So for effective results .... please do your homework and be honest if you haven't! Its about making the self care work for you, when you can fit it in, if it needs to be simplified, we can work on this together. Its all about communication.
